The Arco della Pace, known as the Arch of Peace, stands at the entrance to Parco Sempione in Milan.
This neoclassical structure was begun by Napoleon at the beginning of the 19th century to commemorate his military successes. Crafted from marble from the Swiss Alps, the triumphal arch symbolizes the start of the road connecting Milan to Paris. Originally conceived as part of a broader plan to beautify and strengthen the city, the arch reflects Napoleon's ambitions and the artistic spirit of the era. After Napoleon's fall, construction was interrupted and only completed under Austrian rule in the 1830s to celebrate peace in Europe following the Napoleonic Wars. Today, the Arco della Pace stands as an impressive monument that holds not only aesthetic but also historical significance for Milan and all of Italy.
