The world-famous shopping mile was created after the construction of Zurich's main train station. On the site where the city fortification moat was 150 years ago, it now connects Lake Zurich with the main train station over a distance of 1.4 kilometers. Here you will find numerous boutiques, department stores, and watch shops, as well as Paradeplatz – the center of Swiss banking. The Bahnhofstrasse is just as popular with locals as it is with visitors and is always worth a visit. In summer, you can stroll comfortably to the lake, and in winter, there is mulled wine and hot chocolate on every corner. Leading away from the Bahnhofstrasse, the Rennweg and Augustinergasse lead into the picturesque old town.
