The excursion is worth it just for the view of the city of Lugano and Lake Lugano. Opposite lies San Salvatore, across the lake and the Melide causeway is Monte San Giorgio, and to the west are the Valais Alps. Monte Brè can be reached by a funicular that departs from the city center. Once at the top, visitors can admire breathtaking views of Lake Lugano, the Swiss Alps, and the surrounding landscape on hiking trails. For those who enjoy fine dining, there is also a well-known restaurant on the mountain that serves local dishes. For those interested in history: The short lower section to Ruvigliana was opened in 1908, and the funicular reached Monte Brè in 1912.
